-General Troubleshooting Questions-

Q: I tried to run RTS but recieved a "missing or invalid" or "not correctly registered" error about mswinsck.ocx/comdlg32.ocx/mscomctl.ocx/richtx32.ocx/msvbm60.dll -- what gives?

A: Your system is missing the file mentioned. Go to the RTS Downloads page and download the installer for that file. Run the installer, and try using RTS again. You may need to install all of the files, depending on which ones your system already has.

Q: I am using Windows XP and get a "Out of Memory" error when I run RTS -- even though I have a lot of memory installed!

A: Sadly, that is the one error I have encountered that I cannot currently fix. There are a few things you can try, but they are not guranteed to solve the problem:

1: Download and install the latest Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack from Microsoft's website (http://www.microsoft.com)
2: Reduce your virtual memory so that the total amount of memory in the system (physical and virtual) is less than 1 GigaByte (1,024 MegaBytes).
3: Reduce your physical memory (the memory chips inside of your computer) to below 512 MegaBytes.

This error only occurs in a small percentage of Windows XP users, however, so if you have Windows XP there is still a high probability that RTS will work on your computer.

Q: I can't seem to host a game with anybody!

A: Make sure the port you're listening on is the same as the port they're connecting to.
If that doesn't fix the problem, and you're behind a firewall/router, connecting to the internet through a proxy/over a network, you may have to configure your firewall/router/proxy/network settings to allow communication through port 10945 (or whatever port you are trying to have RTS use).
I have had instances in which it is actually the user's ISP that is preventing communication through that port. In such a case, contact your ISP to see if something can be worked out.

Q: I tried to connect to someone else, but the connection failed.

A: Make sure of a few things:

1) Are you entering the host's IP Address right? (It shouldn't be 127.0.0.1 either!)
2) Are you connecting to the same port that the host is listening at?
3) Are any firewalls/routers/proxies/networks that are between your computer and the internet configured so as to allow communication over RTS's port?
4) Is the host having a problem like the one in the previous question? If so, you may have to host instead.

If the problem is that your firewall/router/proxy/network/etc. is getting in the way, download and install Permeo SocksCap™ (mirror file). Run RTS through SocksCap, after configuring SocksCap to bypass your firewall/router/etc., and you should be able to connect. SocksCap does not give you the ability to host through your firewall/router/etc., however.

Q: I had a connection fail, and now when I try to close RTS it pops right back up again!

A: This problem should be fixed in version 2.76, but if it happens again, please let me know.

Q: I downloaded and installed the High-Resolution card graphics, but they aren't any bigger!

A: They are not higher resolution, merely higher quality. They will not make the cards any bigger, but just make them look better (although the actual quality difference is small).

Q: I installed the graphics and can see them in the deck editor, but not in the game!

A: You just accidentally disabled them, click on Options>Card Graphics> and make sure Show is checked.

Q: I get the error "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." When I click on the "Details" button I get the message "RTS caused an invalid page fault in module OLEAUT32.DLL at 0167:653aac21."

A: This error occurs when your OLEAUT32.DLL file is out of date. Download and run this file from Microsoft to fix it: http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE

Q: How do I notify you of errors I find in RTS?

A: Send an e-mail detailing the problem and what you were doing when it occurred to: redemption@gamerx-creations.com

-Winsock Troubleshooting Questions-

Q: #10045: Connection Reset by Peer

A: The computer you were connected to was forcibly disconnected, either by loss of Internet connection or computer reboot. When your opponent comes back online, reconnect using the [File]-[Reconnect] menu to preserve your game.

Q: #10048: Address Already in Use

A: The port RTS is attempting to connect or listen over is already in use. Either close the other program that is using that port, or try connecting/listening over a different port.

Q: #10051: Network Unreachable

A: RTS was unable to connect to where it was told to. Make sure that any proxies or routers are configured to allow traffic over port 10945, and that you have a means of connecting to the opponent's system.

Q: #10055: No Buffer Space Available

A: There was no more room in which to place messages to be sent. This is most likely because your system has run out of resources. Closing down some open programs or rebooting Windows should free up enough resources.

Q: #10060: Connection Timed Out

A: A connect request failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time. Make sure you are entering the host's IP address correctly. If you are using a router, you may need to configure your router to allow traffic over port 10945.

Q: #10061: Connection Refused

A: No connection could be made, because the target machine actively refused it. Make sure you are attempting to connect to the right IP address, over the same port the game host is listening at.

Q: #10065: No Route to Host

A: Make sure you are connected to the Internet. If you are using a proxy, you may need to configure it to allow traffic over port 10945. If you are unable to do so, you may have to wait until RTS is updated with Socks5 protocol support.

-General Questions-

Q: What are the system requirements for RTS?

A: While RTS will run on practically any system available today, here are some general guidelines:

Minimal System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows 98 or greater
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or greater
32 megabytes of physical memory
3 megabytes of free hard disk space (5MB if using low-quality card pics, 8MB if using high-quality card pics)

Q: How does RTS communicate over the internet?

A: RTS uses the TCP data-transfer protocol through Microsoft's Winsock control. Packets of information are sent through this protocol and processed on the other side.

Q: Where do I install the card graphics?

A: It is best to install them in the "pics" directory in the main RTS directory, but you can store them elsewhere if you wish. If you put them somewhere else you must tell RTS where they are located by doing the following:

1) Load RTS
2) Click on Options>Card Graphics>Picture Directory...
3) Locate the folder in which the card graphics are stored. The text at the bottom of the Folder Locater window should say "GIF card graphics found" or "JPG card graphics found," depending on which quality graphics you have installed.
4) Click OK

Q: What is Single-Player mode for?

A: Single-Player is mainly for getting comfortable using RTS and testing out options and stuff. It can also be used to keep track of cards when playing over the internet with someone who does not use RTS.

Q: Is there an A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) I can play against?

A: Not currently, sorry.

Q: Why aren't the cards in the Deck Editor sorted by brigade, so making a deck is easier?

A: As of version 2.90, Redemption Table Simulator's deck editor supports the sorting of the card lists by name, brigade, or type. Check out the options under the deck editor's [Sorting] menu.

Q: What guarantee do I have that the opponent's deck is legal? For instance, is multiple Authority of Christ cards in a 56 card deck prevented?

A: There is no guarantee. Sorry, but at the moment I do not have any deck enforcement in my Deck Editor, and I don't plan on adding any.

-Card-Specific Questions-

Q: Where does Guardian of your Souls go? There isn't a place designated for it.

A: I usually place it in either the Set-Aside or Land of Bondage area, where it can be easily visible to other players.

Q: How do I use the Lost Souls card in RTS?

A: When one half is rescued, add a counter. When the other half is rescued, send it to the Land of Redemption.

Q: How do I use Angry Mob in RTS?

A: Since, for obvious reasons, you cannot spin a card in RTS, do this instead. Flip a coin to see which player Angry Mob will affect. Then roll a die with a number of sides equal to the number of Heroes that player has in his territory to determine which Hero will be discarded.
